
Solana Staking ETPs: How the Yield Works and Who Offers It

A Solana staking ETP aims to give you two things in one regulated, exchange-listed product: exposure to the price of Solana (SOL), plus the staking rewards that SOL can earn on its network. For European investors who want that yield without running a validator or self-custodying tokens, it is one of the more compelling structures in the crypto-ETP space. Here is how the yield actually works, where the catches are, and who builds these products.
How Solana staking generates a yield #
Solana is a proof-of-stake blockchain. Instead of miners, the network is secured by validators who “stake” SOL as collateral and, in return, earn rewards for helping to produce and confirm blocks. Rewards come from two sources: newly issued SOL (network inflation) and a share of transaction priority fees and MEV.
A few points that matter for anyone assessing yield:
- Nominal vs real yield. The headline staking rate (often quoted in the mid-single digits annually) is partly offset by network inflation. Your real increase in SOL depends on the gap between your reward rate and the inflation that dilutes non-stakers.
- Validator commission. Whoever runs the validator takes a cut before rewards reach the staker.
- Rewards compound in SOL. You earn more SOL, not cash — so the fiat value still rises and falls with the SOL price.
Staking yields are variable and are not guaranteed; treat any quoted figure as indicative and check current rates on the product factsheet.
How a staking ETP captures the rewards for you #
In a standard (non-staking) Solana ETP, the issuer simply holds SOL in custody and the product tracks the price. A staking ETP goes further: the issuer stakes some or all of the underlying SOL through validators and passes the rewards through to holders.
That pass-through typically shows up in one of two ways:
- NAV accrual — the staking rewards increase the amount of SOL backing each unit, so the product’s net asset value rises relative to a non-staking equivalent.
- Fee offset — some issuers use staking income to subsidise the product’s fee, effectively lowering the total expense ratio.
Either way, the point is the same: you get SOL price exposure with the network yield reflected in the product, rather than paid out as a cash distribution. The risks a staking ETP adds #
Staking is not free yield — it introduces risks on top of ordinary price and issuer risk:
- Validator downtime — not slashing. Solana does not currently operate active slashing: the protocol does not automatically confiscate staked SOL when a validator misbehaves or goes offline. The practical risk is therefore missed rewards during downtime, plus the effect of any change to a validator’s commission — not a penalty on your principal. Good issuers spread stake across professional validators to minimise downtime.
- Unbonding / liquidity delays. Staked SOL is not instantly available; it unlocks over network epochs. Issuers manage a liquidity buffer so the ETP itself stays tradeable, but it is a structural consideration.
- Validator concentration. Relying on a small set of validators concentrates operational risk.
- Custody and issuer risk. As with any crypto ETN, you still depend on the issuer’s solvency and the custodian’s security.

Staking-enabled Solana products are offered by several of the established European crypto-ETP issuers. The popular names to research include:

What to compare before you buy #
- Does it actually stake, and what share of SOL is staked?
- Net staking benefit after validator commission and fees.
- Total expense ratio — a high fee can erase the staking edge.
- Physical backing, issuer and custodian.
- Validator and liquidity policy.
A staking ETP with a modest fee and a well-run validator programme can meaningfully out-accrue a plain Solana ETP over time; a high-fee one may not.

A Solana staking ETP bundles SOL price exposure with the network’s staking yield inside a regulated wrapper — no validator, no wallet, no unbonding logistics on your side. The trade-off is added validator, liquidity and issuer considerations, and yields that move with the network.
