XRP ETPs in Europe: Every Listed XRP ETN and the UK Gap (2026)
Table of Contents
Short answer: Europe has had an exchange-traded XRP product since April 2019, when 21Shares (then Amun) listed AXRP on SIX Swiss Exchange, more than six years before the first US spot XRP ETF traded in November 2025. As of September 2026 at least six issuers list XRP ETNs across SIX, Xetra, Euronext Paris and Nasdaq Stockholm, with annual fees from a reported 0.50% (WisdomTree) to 2.50% (21Shares). For UK retail investors there is still no XRP ETN on the London Stock Exchange list, only Bitcoin and Ether ETNs, so the UK routes today are direct XRP through a crypto platform, or waiting. Crypto ETNs also left the Stocks and Shares ISA on 6 April 2026 and now qualify only for the Innovative Finance ISA, though SIPPs remain open. And because the XRP Ledger has no staking, no XRP product anywhere pays a yield.
Which XRP ETPs are listed in Europe? #
Seven lines from six issuers were live in September 2026. All are debt securities, so ETN and ETP are used interchangeably here; if the structure is new to you, start with what a crypto ETN is. Rows are ordered by first trading date; figures are from issuer pages on the dates shown unless marked.
| Issuer | Ticker (primary venue) | First trading | Annual fee | Backing | AUM (date) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 21Shares XRP ETP | AXRP (SIX) | 2 Apr 2019 | 2.50% | Physically backed, cold storage (issuer) | $343.1m (11 Sep 2026) |
| CoinShares Physical XRP | XRPL (SIX) | 13 Apr 2021 | 1.50% | Physically backed (issuer) | $165.0m (10 Sep 2026) |
| Bitwise Physical XRP ETP (ex ETC Group) | GXRP (Xetra) | 21 to 22 Apr 2022 | 1.95% | Physically backed, cold storage (issuer) | $158.1m (Sep 2026) |
| Valour Ripple (XRP) SEK | VALOUR XRP SEK (Spotlight) | 21 Feb 2024 (NGM) | 1.90% | Fully hedged with XRP; Copper and Komainu custody (issuer) | $29.6m (Sep 2026) |
| Virtune XRP ETP | VIRXRP (Nasdaq Stockholm) | 2 Jul 2024 | 1.49% | Physically backed; Coinbase Custody (issuer) | $98.6m (11 Sep 2026) |
| WisdomTree Physical XRP | XRPW / WXRP (Xetra) | Nov 2024 (reported) | 0.50% reported | Backed by XRP (reported) | Not on a retrievable issuer page |
| CoinShares XBT Physical XRP SEK | COINXRP (Nasdaq Stockholm) | 21 May 2025 | 1.50% | Physically backed (issuer) | $0.4m (10 Sep 2026) |
A “VanEck XRP ETN” appears on some aggregator lists, but no issuer page, exchange notice or justETF entry could be found for it, so it is left out. The fee spread is the table’s lesson: the cheapest reported line costs a fifth of the dearest, and the largest product is also the most expensive.
Which European XRP ETP launched first? #
The 21Shares XRP ETP, launched as Amun AG, was the first exchange-traded XRP product anywhere. The 21shares.com product page gives an inception date of 1 April 2019 and contemporaneous reports put the first SIX trading day at 2 April 2019. One caveat: justETF’s summary says 21 June 2019, probably a later listing the aggregator began tracking, but the discrepancy is unexplained.
Chronology by first trading date:
- 21Shares (Amun) AXRP, SIX, 2 April 2019.
- CoinShares XRPL, SIX, 13 April 2021.
- ETC Group, now Bitwise, GXRP, Xetra, 21 to 22 April 2022.
- Valour Ripple (XRP) SEK, NGM, 21 February 2024; Spotlight from 21 October 2024.
- Virtune VIRXRP, Nasdaq Stockholm, 2 July 2024.
- WisdomTree XRPW / WXRP, November 2024 (secondary sources).
- CoinShares XBT Physical XRP SEK, COINXRP, Nasdaq Stockholm, 21 May 2025.
Can UK investors buy an XRP ETN? #
Not through a UK retail broker, as of September 2026. The FCA opened retail access to crypto ETNs from 8 October 2025, but its press release of 1 August 2025 requires that they “must be traded on an FCA-approved, UK-based investment exchange (a Recognised Investment Exchange or RIE)”. A SIX, Xetra or Stockholm listing does not satisfy that by itself.
The LSE crypto ETN list, as enumerated by Finder on 4 September 2026, spans nine issuers and every line is Bitcoin or Ether. Broker pages agree: Trading 212 states that “only ETNs that reference Bitcoin or Ethereum and are listed on a UK Recognised Investment Exchange are available to trade”, AJ Bell that “investors can only access ETNs that hold Bitcoin and Ethereum”, and Hargreaves Lansdown, which reportedly opened crypto ETNs on 3 September 2026, offers Bitcoin and Ether only. Our guide to crypto ETNs in the UK tracks the admitted list.
That leaves two routes: buy spot XRP through an FCA-registered cryptoasset firm, outside the ETN framework, any tax wrapper and FSCS cover; or wait. 21Shares, CoinShares, WisdomTree and Bitwise all run LSE Bitcoin or Ether ETNs and XRP lines elsewhere in Europe, so the gap is one of admission, not manufacture. Neither is a recommendation.
Are crypto ETNs ISA eligible in the UK? #
Only in an Innovative Finance ISA, since 6 April 2026. The Individual Savings Account (Amendment) Regulations 2026, SI 2026/248 on legislation.gov.uk, made on 9 March 2026, define a “UK cryptoasset exchange traded note”, state that it “is not a qualifying security” for the stocks and shares component, and add it as a qualifying investment for the innovative finance component. Junior ISAs lose crypto ETNs too.
Holdings in a Stocks and Shares ISA “immediately before 6th April 2026” are “to be treated, for as long as they are so held, as qualifying investments”, so nobody is forced to sell; Trading 212 confirms existing positions can be held or sold while new purchases are disabled. IFISA managers supporting crypto ETNs remain scarce and reports conflict, so verify with a provider.
Pensions stayed open: HMRC’s policy paper of 8 October 2025 allows crypto ETNs “to be held within registered pension schemes” from that date, and Hargreaves Lansdown and AJ Bell list theirs as SIPP-eligible. The detail is in crypto ETNs and the ISA. For XRP it is academic until something is admitted to the LSE.
How do XRP ETPs compare with the US spot XRP ETFs? #
Six US funds hold spot XRP: REX-Osprey XRPR (18 September 2025, 0.75%, a 1940 Act fund with partial direct holdings), Canary XRPC (13 November 2025, the first pure spot product, 0.50%), Bitwise XRP (20 November 2025, 0.34%), Grayscale GXRP (24 November 2025, 0.35%), Franklin XRPZ (24 November 2025, 0.19%) and 21Shares TOXR (11 December 2025; SEC filings say 0.30%, the issuer page 0.50%). Combined net assets were reported at about $1.48bn on 7 September 2026 (SoSoValue via secondary outlets); Bitwise XRP alone, at $499.5m, is larger than any European line.
The comparison is instructive rather than actionable. US ETFs carry no PRIIPs Key Information Document, so EU and UK retail brokers cannot offer them, and the fee gap is stark: 1.49% to 2.50% in Europe against 0.19% to 0.75% in the US. Whether European issuers cut XRP fees as they did Bitcoin fees is the thing to watch. The full line-up, including futures and leveraged products, is on our sister list of US spot XRP ETFs on Chain & Ticker.
XRP itself traded at $1.43 in mid-September 2026, up about 42% over 30 days but roughly 60% below its 2025 high (CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap disagree on the exact peak). The SEC and Ripple jointly dismissed their appeals on 7 August 2025, with the $125m civil penalty standing.
Physical or synthetic, and does any XRP product stake? #
Every issuer in the table describes its product as physically backed or fully hedged with XRP held by a third-party custodian; 21Shares, CoinShares, Bitwise and Virtune say “100% physically backed” on their product pages. WisdomTree’s is reported as fully backed; its issuer page could not be retrieved.
Staking is where XRP differs from the other large altcoin categories. The XRP Ledger uses neither mining nor proof of stake, and xrpl.org states that Ripple “avoids paying XRP as a reward for operating a validator”. There is no protocol yield to pass through, so no XRP ETN offers a staking return, unlike Ethereum ETPs in Europe and Solana ETPs, where staking lines compete on net yield. For XRP the fee is the whole cost.
How do you buy an XRP ETP in the EU? #
Germany. Xetra carries 21XP (21Shares, EUR), WXRP (WisdomTree), GXRP (Bitwise, the only XRP ETP first listed on Xetra) and VRTX (Virtune, EUR, since 23 May 2025). Tax is product-specific: under the BMF letter of 6 March 2025 a physically backed note with a delivery claim gets the one-year holding period of section 23 EStG; one without it falls under the 25% Abgeltungsteuer plus surcharge.
France. Euronext Paris lists 21Shares AXRP (USD), CoinShares XRPL (EUR, CTO-eligible per Boursorama), Bitwise GXRP (since 19 May 2026), Virtune, and WisdomTree per secondary sources. None is PEA-eligible: crypto ETNs are debt securities and the PEA is limited to equities and equity funds under article L221-31 of the Code monétaire et financier. CTO gains fall under the 31.4% flat tax (impots.gouv.fr, July 2026).
Sweden. Nasdaq Stockholm has three SEK lines: Virtune VIRXRP (since 2 July 2024), 21Shares AXRP (since 24 March 2025) and CoinShares COINXRP (since 21 May 2025), with Virtune and 21Shares on both Avanza and Nordnet. Valour’s Ripple (XRP) SEK line trades on Spotlight Stock Market rather than Nasdaq, having moved from NGM in October 2024, and appears on Avanza and Nordnet at 1.90% with about $29.6m in assets. All four can sit in an ISK, where the 2026 schablon tax is 1.065% of capital above the 300,000 kr allowance.
Switzerland. SIX is the primary venue for 21Shares and CoinShares and a secondary listing for Bitwise. Wherever you buy, check the line’s trading currency and the fee on the issuer page rather than an aggregator.
What are the risks? #
The obvious one is the underlying: XRP sits around 60% below its 2025 peak after a 40%-plus rally in one month, and an ETN tracks that one for one, minus fees. The structural ones are easier to miss. These are debt securities: the holder has a claim on the issuer, collateralised by XRP at a custodian, not title to the coins. Fees of 1.49% to 2.50% a year compound; a EUR or SEK line adds the dollar exchange rate on top. In the UK the FCA regime brings appropriateness tests, a 24-hour cooling-off period and, in its own words, “no coverage from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme”. No yield offsets any of this.
FAQ #
Is there an XRP ETF in the UK? No. As of September 2026 no XRP ETN has been admitted to the London Stock Exchange; UK brokers offer only Bitcoin and Ether ETNs, and the FCA requires retail crypto ETNs to trade on a UK Recognised Investment Exchange.
What is the cheapest XRP ETP in Europe? WisdomTree Physical XRP is reported at 0.50% a year, though its issuer page could not be retrieved to confirm this. Among issuer-verified fees, Virtune (1.49%) is lowest and 21Shares (2.50%) highest.
Which XRP ETP is the largest? 21Shares AXRP at $343.1m on 11 September 2026, then CoinShares Physical XRP at $165.0m and Bitwise GXRP at $158.1m. The largest US spot XRP ETF, Bitwise XRP, was bigger at $499.5m.
Can I hold a crypto ETN in a Stocks and Shares ISA? Not through a new purchase since 6 April 2026. SI 2026/248 limits crypto ETNs to the Innovative Finance ISA; holdings already inside a Stocks and Shares ISA can stay. SIPPs have been permitted since 8 October 2025.
Does any XRP ETP pay staking rewards? No. The XRP Ledger has no mining and no staking, and its validators are not paid in XRP, so there is no yield to pass on.
