Solana ETP Flows Hold Firm as Morgan Stanley Circles
Table of Contents
The Solana ETF story this week was not written by the price. SOL changed hands at $77.27 on 15 July, down 0.64% on the day and sitting roughly 69% below its 52-week high of $253.21, yet the regulated-product pipeline kept moving in the opposite direction to the tape. For European allocators weighing regulated SOL exposure, the signal worth reading is structural, not directional.
Morgan Stanley sharpens the wedge #
The headline filing came from Morgan Stanley. On 14 July the bank amended its S-1 registration statements for proposed spot Ethereum and Solana ETFs, naming Coinbase for custody and staking support and BNY Mellon as joint custodian, according to Odaily. The Solana trust — earmarked for NYSE Arca under the ticker MSOL — may stake up to 100% of its SOL while retaining a liquidity buffer for redemptions, with the staking provider and custodian sharing 5% of rewards and the remaining 95% accruing to the trust.
The number that matters is the fee: 0.14%, which CoinGape reports is the lowest yet struck on a US crypto ETF. Bloomberg’s James Seyffart said a launch is “likely getting pretty close.” As Bitcoin.com News framed it, 0.14% undercuts Grayscale’s 0.15% and Franklin Templeton’s 0.19% — a narrow spread that signals intensifying price competition rather than a settled market.
The fee war is already live #
The incumbents are not waiting. Grayscale cut the sponsor fee on its Solana Staking ETF from 0.35% to 0.19% effective 25 June, and reduced its staking fee from 23% to 7%, per disclosures summarised by CryptoSlate. The same round-up notes 21Shares plans to move its TSOL pricing benchmark from CF Benchmarks to FTSE on or about 24 August, per a 7 July 8-K — a plumbing change, but one that affects fund mechanics and distribution conversations.
Bitwise’s staking product remains the flows bellwether. TipRanks recorded $8.36 million of new capital into the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF on 7 July, roughly 1.25% of the fund’s $668.19 million in assets — a “test the dip” subscription against a soft token.
Flows that ignore the chart #
The structural bid is the through-line. Tradingnews reports US-listed spot Solana ETFs closed every July trading session with net inflows, pushing cumulative inflows above $1 billion since the 28 October 2025 debut, with the first full trading week of July adding $5.75 million. On the ETP side, ETF Express puts Solana product AUM at $2.14 billion in its June digital-asset review — a fifth consecutive month of net inflows.
That divergence — price down, wrapper accumulating — is the crux for a regulated allocator. CoinMarketCap noted SOL ETFs took in about $5.75 million between 29 June and 2 July while spot Bitcoin ETFs bled roughly $527 million, positioning SOL as a relative favourite among regulated products even in a risk-off tape. Flows are not one-directional every day — KuCoin flagged an $8.6 million SOL outflow on 8 July — but the July trend has been additive.
What it means for European investors #
Europeans have had regulated SOL exposure via physically backed ETPs for far longer than US investors have had spot ETFs, and the venue picture keeps broadening. Deutsche Börse’s Xetra segment continues to expand its crypto ETN shelf, listing a new physically backed bitcoin core ETP on 10 July, per Deutsche Börse — a reminder that the European wrapper market is a listings business, not an approval event.
The macro backdrop is supportive at the margin: Saxo noted crypto-linked equities and ETFs rallied on 14 July after a softer June US inflation print eased Fed-hike fears, with US spot bitcoin ETFs drawing their largest daily inflow in two months. For SOL specifically, the read is that the fee compression now under way in the US — an eventual MSOL at 0.14% against Grayscale and 21Shares — will pressure European product economics too. Cheaper, staking-enabled wrappers are the direction of travel.
The honest caveat: a filing is not a launch. As Adbytes put it after a separate Bitwise filing on 8 July, a registration statement starts the formal process; it does not end it. And the regulatory floor is firmer than it was — the SEC and CFTC jointly classified SOL as a digital commodity on 17 March 2026, per legal analysis cited by MEXC — which removes a structural barrier for institutional allocators regardless of price.
FAQ: Solana ETF news, answered #
Is there a US spot Solana ETF? #
Yes. Spot Solana ETFs began trading in the US on 28 October 2025, per Everstake. Morgan Stanley’s proposed MSOL, filed with the SEC and amended on 14 July 2026, would be an additional entrant and had not launched as of publication.
What fee would Morgan Stanley’s Solana ETF charge? #
0.14%, per the amended S-1 reported by CoinGape — the lowest fee struck on a US crypto ETF to date and below Grayscale (0.15%) and Franklin Templeton (0.19%).
Are Solana ETPs seeing inflows despite the price fall? #
Yes. US spot Solana ETFs logged net inflows every July trading session, cumulatively above $1 billion since launch, per Tradingnews, even as SOL traded near $77.
How do European investors get regulated SOL exposure? #
Through physically backed crypto ETPs listed on European venues such as Xetra and SIX; the shelf continues to expand, with Deutsche Börse adding new crypto ETNs in July per Deutsche Börse.
